Lore Art Exhibition
I was a part of &Gallery’s Lore Art Exhibition in October of 2022 in Tucson, AZ. The theme of the 2022 art show was to highlight a creature or being of myth from your culture. The painting’s title is Remember Me.
Being part Chinese, I chose to paint a Hungry Ghost (餓鬼). In addition to choosing this being, I also wanted to honor my late grandmother and our family practice of ancestor veneration. Featured in this painting is my Grandmother in her youth, beautiful in death with chrysanthemum flowers (her favorite flowers) blooming from her bones. The background is reminiscent of an old, burnt or moldering photograph to give the feeling of being haunted.
On opening night, I also set up an altar with incense, joss paper, tangerines, jade, and my Grandmother’s mini Buddha statue. The painting measures 11x14 inches and was done in India ink and acrylic paint.
